The researchers at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) have successfully patented a groundbreaking technology called 'Combined Power Generation Technology'. This innovative technology is capable of harnessing the power from both tidal and wind sources to generate electricity. This has the capability to be utilized as a mobile vehicle for generating, transmitting, and storing power.
IIT Madras has released a press statement announcing a recent innovation in the form of an energy converter system. This system aims to generate electricity in coastal regions, thus effectively decreasing the overall electricity demand. Depending on the power requirements in the coastal area, the converter system can be deployed. Currently, the researchers are directing their attention towards scalability and affordability, endeavoring to construct a cost-efficient prototype by implementing 3D printing and other related technologies.
The research was conducted by Sadham Usean Ramasamy, PhD Research Scholar at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras, along with Prof. According to the press release, Seshadri Sekhar, who formerly led the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras, is currently serving as the Director of IIT Palakkad while on deputation.
The use of this technology has the potential to result in reduced costs, lower maintenance requirements, and the generation of clean and sustainable energy. Tidal energy possesses abundant potential and possesses the unique characteristic of being highly predictable, making it a viable and eco-friendly source of sustainable energy.
