IIT Kanpur has developed a revolutionary touch-sensitive Braille learning system that promises to revolutionise learning for the visually handicapped. The 'Single Refreshable Braille Cell Based Braille Learning Device with a Touch Sensitive Array' was designed by Professor Siddhartha Panda and Vishwaraj Srivastava at the National Centre of Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE), IITK.
The new technology equips the visually handicapped with a powerful and reasonably priced tool to begin their Braille learning journey. With global Braille literacy rates frighteningly low, this ground-breaking device promises to close the gap in accessible education.

"One of the main cost drivers in modern digital Braille devices is the inclusion of multiple braille cells, typically more than five.
This significantly raises the expense, making these gadgets unavailable to people who require them the most," noted Professor Siddhartha Panda.
"However, the NCFlexE Single Refreshable Braille Cell Based Braille Learning Device addresses these challenges and is a viable, very affordable alternative."
The gadget offers capability similar to more expensive multi-cell rivals at a fraction of the cost by replacing traditionally pricey multiple cells with a single refreshable Braille cell seamlessly incorporated into a cutting-edge touch array. The device teaches users the essentials of Braille basic symbols, words, and sentences.
