QS Quacquarelli Symonds, the renowned global higher education analysts, unveiled the anticipated 2024 QS World University Rankings: Asia today. The latest edition of the book is the largest one so far, showcasing 856 institutions from 25 different countries.
This year's ranking, which assesses institutions using criteria such as global reputation, research strength, teaching resources, and internationalization, is the biggest so far. It features a total of 856 institutions from 25 countries and territories, including 148 that are ranked for the first time.
For two years in a row, Peking University has been named the top university in the region based on the results. In terms of ranking, the University of Hong Kong has ascended to the second position, with the National University of Singapore (NUS) following closely in third place.
India has now taken the lead as the most represented higher education system, with a commendable count of 148 universities being featured; marking a remarkable increase of 37 from the previous year. Mainland China takes the second spot with a total of 133, while Japan closely follows with a tally of 96. The countries of Myanmar, Cambodia, and Nepal make their debut appearances.
After conducting the analysis, it is evident that there is a balanced trend in the year-over-year performance. More than half of the ranked universities have witnessed a decline in their position, while 21 universities have shown improvement. Additionally, there are 15 universities that remain unchanged in their ranking, and notable 37 new entries have been included. India dominates the new entries, while Mainland China only has seven new additions to its list of ranked institutions.
